The typical Ons cuisine is a good example of the Galician cuisine, famous for using fresh products from the fields and the sea, which are then cooked in a traditional way.

The best known is the Pulpo á feira (traditional Galician octopus recipe). However, you can also taste other first-class fresh products from the sea, resulting from the traditional fishing and the tradition of this Island, such as seabass, clams, razor clams, or a variety of scallops. The unique taste of these dishes will undoubtedly delight any palate.

400 million years ago the great convulsions between the terrestrial plates, a process called Hercynian Orogeny, were the great modelers of the landscape of the Galician coast. The climate of Ons is the so-called sub-humid Mediterranean climate of Atlantic transition, which allows the proliferation of a great variety of species.

The first evidence of settlers in Ons coincides with the Castro culture settlements during the Bronze Age. The most popular, which is yet to be excavated, is known as “Castelo dos Mouros”.

The lack of prospecting for this fort also leaves us without a record of the Roman occupation of the islands, as they used to settle in pre-existing Celtic settlements. The Modern Age was a time of instability in Ons due to the numerous lootings and sieges of pirates.

The history of the Ons Island goes back to the bronze age, the island is full of castros that reveals how those first settlements were. Certainly, it is an experience full of learning and history paths.
